A Gift, Not a Curse!

Life’s a gift to be celebrated,

Not a curse to be denigrated,

Unlike what they loudly said,

That, “It’s better to be dead.

Life’s a burden, heavy to bear,

Full of woe and onerous care.

From it you must at once flee,

From its bonds seek to be free.

To this world you must fully die,

We'll here share the reason why.

The world you must fully shun.

For, here real joy you’ll find none.

On this world God's put a curse,

So, for it hatred we must nurse.

This world we firmly renounce,

"Fie on it!", we boldly pronounce.

Don’t be fooled by worldly allure,

It’s a deadly disease with no cure.

Pray that day will soon arrive,

The last you’ll be here alive.

With this world have little to do,

For your good this we tell you.

This world’s the Devil in disguise,

So you’ll know once you get wise.

It’s harsh, cruel, most unkind,

So, to it you must be fully blind.

The world you must rudely spurn.

For it you must have no concern.

If in the world’s eyes you fail,

Know it to be a victory to hail,

For it’s a dismal failure indeed

By worldly measure to succeed.

If in the world you crave to excel,

You surely pave your way to Hell.

To go to Heaven, up in the sky,

The world you must firmly deny.

To the world you must fully die,

Living as an unconcerned passerby,

For the world, you must know,

Is, in fact, your inveterate foe.

If in its snare you once get caught,

You’ll be dragged down to naught.

This world’s a realm vile and bad,

So while here mourn and be sad.

Know you’re here for just a while,

In this evil place don’t even smile.

After death in bliss you can delight,

In a place far from the world’s sight.

In this good news you can be glad

That soon liberation may be had

When death whisks you away,

Ending thus your worldly stay.”

Ah, how many they thus misled,

With their call of gloom and dread,

Making life in this world out to be

Some sort of most grave calamity,

So that those who fell into their trap,

Believing blindly their noxious crap,

Made of their lives a massive mess,

As I myself did, so I must confess,

But this I was then led to realise

That their claims were sheer lies,

And I came to know also for sure

That they were wrong to the core,

And that while difficult life can be,

It’s also a precious opportunity,

To be, flower, flourish and grow.

I’ve now found this all’s truly so,

And though misery is to be found,

Pure joy also here does abound.

And more than that, I’ve understood

That this vast world is actually good,

For what as most vile they presumed

Is a form that God Himself’s assumed,

For God has made Himself manifest

As this our world and all of the rest.”
