And All This, Lord, What Was It For?

It’s You who made them be born

In Your world by rival creeds torn,

Defending theirs with passion great.

Ah Lord! Them how did You sedate!

Each then began to proudly declare

That of the creeds that were there,

Theirs was the best, only true one.

See, Lord, what You have done!

On this basis they began to fight,

Each claiming their creed as right,

Cursing the rest with hate severe.

Ah my Lord, this tale did You hear?

This, in turn, drove them to war,

Long centuries of strife and gore.

Millions died, and numerous more.

And all this, Lord, what was it for?

Only because You made them be born

In Your world by rival creeds torn.
