Falsehood Parading in Truth’s Guise

Come, see how finely he regales
His flock with those foolish tales
That hail from times so very old,
Which for aeons have been retold,
What as ‘God’s Own Word’ they call
(Mere lies for which vast millions fall),
These myths absurd, all most bizarre,
From both logic and ethics very far.
In silence I watch while he continues
Loudly haranguing the packed pews.
From him I turn, then to myself I ask,
“How can this man take on the task
Of reciting those tales, day in and out,
Demanding in them we have no doubt,
Tales of folks from long millennia ago
(If they lived at all, we just can’t know)?
He grimly warns if any of this we defy
Then, soon after God makes us to die,
He, in His wrath, will send us to Hell,
For being so foolish as to dare rebel.
There, in a non-stop fire, we will burn,
Punishment forever it's this we’ll earn.
Ah, his ranting I no longer can bear,
A voice within tells me to firmly dare
To call off this man’s false, vile bluff,
For, of his lies I’ve had quite enough.
I leap to my feet, and then I declare:
“For your tales, I just no longer care.
I’ve now seen through all your lies,
Falsehood parading in truth’s guise.”
Then, from the hall at once I flee,
From this madness on being set free!
