In this present world, whatever a person obtains is for the purpose of the test that they are being put to—which is the reason why man has been placed by God on Earth in the first place. In line with the exigencies of this test, God has given some people less of some things and other people more of the same. So, for instance, some people have been given a lower position while some others have been given a higher position. Now, if a person were to compare themselves with somebody who is higher than them, they might be led to think that they have been blessed with less. As a result, they may develop complaints against God, rather than being grateful to Him, even though it is gratitude that God, our Divine Parent, desires most from His children.

The way to save oneself from this grave error is to compare oneself always with someone who has been given less than oneself. Somebody may have less in terms of health or intelligence or worldly possessions. When a person compares himself with such people, he will experience a sense of gratitude to God for what He has given him.

To express gratitude is the greatest good deed. Now, to perform this good deed in the true sense it is necessary to carefully guard one’s mind. One must prevent one’s mind from moving in the direction of ingratitude. One must keep one’s mind firmly in the direction which engenders feelings of gratitude.
