Is This So?

Is it that each their tasks defined
Have by You been clearly assigned,
With each thus to play their part,
And from which none can depart,
In the drama that You’ve designed,
Each being to their role confined,
And made to do as You’ve decreed,
Every thought, word and deed
That has been since long before
Kept for them carefully in store,
The script for each fixed firm thus,
This being so for every one of us,
Over which we have no control,
Compelled to play each our role,
And when it’s over, off we’ll go?
I wonder if this all is really so.
If it is, the best course for us
Is playing our part with no fuss,
If I’m wrong here, I apologize,
For I must confess I’m not wise.
Of such things what can I know?
My silly mind loves to ramble so,
To ponder, trying to comprehend,
The mysteries that far transcend
The limits of mere mortal mind
That by ourselves we can’t find.
At most, we can merely speculate,
Unless to us You decide to relate
These hidden truths most significant
Of which we’re presently ignorant.
Maybe one day You’ll lift the veil
And relate to us this secret tale,
The truth of this concealed affair,
Laying thus at last all things bare!
