Thanks a Lot, But I Must Say

My own theology I will make.

Yes, I’ll do that, for my sake.

I won’t believe what you say.

I’ll chart my very own way.

You insist that I really must

In your theology fully trust,

Taking it as true, the best,

Far superior to all the rest.

But to you I must now reply:

“No! No! Why ever should I?

There’s no way that I can see

That all what you say to me,

This theology that you sell,

Is really true, good and well.

“Much of it might be fake,

So, it as valid I won't take.

Your way I won’t imitate,

Thereby ruining my fate.

“The beliefs that you hold,

Inherited from times of old,

All these I’ve left far behind,

My own truth I’ll now find.

“This task I myself must do,

I won’t hand it over to you.

Thanks a lot, but I must say

That I'll chart my own way.

“I have found my own guide,

Within myself, deep inside.

Your help’s offer I must decline,

My theology must be just mine.”
