This Talk of a Sky-God’s Gift

All this land is yours, you say,

Because on some distant day

God decided that He should

Give it to your clan for good.

For proof you say I should look

In your clan’s acclaimed book.

This claim, that I’ve long heard,

Seems to me as utterly absurd.

Your book says it’s all your land,

But it’s written by human hand,

And it could well be a gross lie,

This talk of a god up in the sky,

Who decided and then decreed

To give your folks this land deed.

This tale of a god’s gift of land,

I think one can well understand,

Is a plain, crude and crafty ruse,

An obvious land-grabbing excuse.

To me, it does very clearly seem

To be really a most murky scheme.
