You Think Only Humans Count

You think that only humans count

And other beings to nothing amount,

That all other species that abound

And on our Planet Earth are found

Have no rights whatsoever at all,

While Man ‘Earth’s King’ you call.

You even say in the world as a whole

It’s only human beings that have a soul,

And on the basis of this foolish claim

Other creatures you kill, eat and maim,

Claiming the Lord these all did make

Simply for your fellow humans’ sake.

Please now know these just aren’t true,

These old tales that were taught to you,

For, it’s the one same God who gave birth

To all creatures on the face of His Earth,

And all of them in His image He made,

And in each of them He does pervade.

This being so, these creatures, too,

Have their rights, just as humans do.
