A Better Reason to Live Can There Be?

Is this the reason You sent us here:

To live in stress and constant fear?

Was Your purpose for us really this:

That we’d like serpents sting and hiss,

And like wolves growl, snarl and bite,

Driven by hate and by visceral spite,

Being led to wage war and forever fight,

Proudly displaying our supposed might,

Imaging to be Your Earth’s Great King,

And so born to rule over everything?

Surely not, it’s most certainly not right,

There’s more than what meets the sight,

A purpose much greater, of that I’m sure,

That’s infinitely higher, nobler far more

Than what our long record may show,

Loftier than that, intuitively I know.

There’s love behind Your cosmos vast,

Engulfing it from beginningless past,

Deemed to be that way with no end,

To this great task, then, may we attend:

To love deeply, and as much as we can,

Extending our love not just to fellow man,

But to all the beings and things around,

For, in each of them You’re to be found,

(Because You are in all, and all is in You),

And so, this is now our main task to do:

To love each new day at least a little more

Than how much we loved the day before.

No grander purpose for life can I see,

A better reason to live can there be?
