If the Masks Slip!

I’ll let the mask to fall,
Knowing that, after all,
Even if nice it appears,
It won’t stop my fears,
Nor manage to appease
Those I seek to please,
And no good will I gain
But only a searing strain
Of posing always to be
Someone who’s not me.
As I truly am, let me appear,
With no worry and no fear,
What’ll happen then will be so,
Their truth, too, I’ll come to know.
Behind our masks we all hide
Our real selves that lie inside.
If the masks slip from every face,
What will then take their place?
Our truth, that we keep concealed,
Will, even to us, be finally revealed!
