May I Suggest This Instead?

Cease at once this madness of yours!
I suggest to you this simply because
There’s no way that what you declare
(With great passion and much fanfare)
Can be proven to be true and right,
And not lies or mere delusionary flight:
The tales of unseen beings that you tell,
Good and kind; fierce and evil as well,
And ghosts, ghouls and genies galore,
Sprites, devils and many such more,
And winged angels of enormous might
Who you claim live far beyond our sight,
And many other creatures that you insist
In far, distant planes invisible to us exist.
You fervently believe and firmly state
That if we care truly about our fate
While on this Earth, and beyond, too,
There’s one thing we just have to do:
Believe as true all that you proclaim,
And act as you act, in manner same,
Obeying what you tell in every way,
This to us you in grave warning say
(With visage grim, grave and stern):
“In Hell’s leaping fires you'll burn
If what I proclaim here you reject,
Refusing to believe just as I expect”.
Sometimes, this threat you also give:
“You’ll return to Earth, again to live,
In pathetic condition, great anguish,
If you don't believe and do as I wish.”
To you I say this: “Listen, my friend,
To my words your ears now lend.
Tell me, my dear, this in me confide:
Can you any convincing proof provide
For all the numerous claims you state,
Beliefs and dogmas that you articulate,
Concerning things that no human mind
Can seek out to know and clearly find?
No! There’s really no such evidence
Of what you declare, and so, hence,
There's just no reason why I should
Take all that you say as true and good.
And this being so, may I now suggest
(This I must say this for your own best):
We don’t know if they’re false or true,
So, leave them aside, please will you?
Focus, instead, on what we can know,
Things we can be certain are truly so,
Like, that it’s good for us to be kind
And cultivate a happy and positive mind,
And other such things we can know well,
On such matters instead let us dwell.”
