Moments Spent Most Well

“Keep yourself busy all day”:

This to myself often I'd say.

“Not a moment must you be free

To do nothing and just simply be.

Be constantly engaged in some work,

This duty of yours please never shirk.

Into Satan’s workshop your mind’ll turn

The moment you stop working to earn.

This thought drill deep into your head:

Be nonstop busy till you drop dead.”

But later I learnt this isn’t quite so,

The joy of ‘non-doing’ I came to know,

And so now, for some time each day,

I enjoy what you may call ‘whiling away’,

Doing nothing at all, or so you might tell,

These for me moments spent most well,

Sitting silently, at day’s break and at night,

This ‘non-doing’ is now my greatest delight!
