Please See Through All These Lies!

You fervently believe all that’s been said
In books penned by men long since dead.
“These tomes are divine”, so you proclaim,
“The Lord’s own words, of greatest fame,
Each letter of these God Himself spoke,
And sent down to us mere mortal folk
As rules and laws meant for us to obey,
Based on firm faith in all that they say.
And these all are far beyond compare,
To doubt the slightest we mustn’t dare.
If that we do, God'll hurl us into Hell,
And in its fires make us forever dwell,
Or maybe we’ll again here be born,
In a miserable state, pathetic, forlorn,
But if we, in faith, childlike yet firm,
Their greatness repeatedly affirm,
Heartily agreeing with what they teach,
Taking as God’s orders all that they preach,
We’ll get to enjoy Heaven’s eternal delights,
Pleasures galore, the most dazzling sights.”
You keep reciting this tired, worn-out tale,
With great zeal and zest, and without fail.
These same lines you’ve for long loudly sung,
And just to be polite, I have held my tongue,
But now, somehow, I'm impelled this to say:
“You’re most welcome to follow your way,
But please don’t hope that you can succeed
In getting me to accept your foolish creed.”
There’s one fact I think you should know:
That your claims are false, most truly so.
On a grand feast of lies you’ve been fed,
You, I’m sure, have been grossly misled.
These beliefs that you so ardently uphold
Cause my heart to freeze, turning icy cold.
That they're most vile, truly, utterly so,
Is a fact that I instinctively well know.
When will you these untruths unlearn?
When will you their true face discern?
Know that these all in truth are sheer lies
Appearing deceptively in a 'pious' guise.
Sadness and great pity for you I do feel,
From your madness may you soon heal.
See through these lies, hurry, make haste,
If you don't do so, your life will go waste,
And how very tragic that would be!
May this be as clear to you as it is to me.
I hope you’ll pay heed to all I’ve said,
Soon, right now, well before you’re dead,
For, if you refuse, I’ll say with some pain:
Your life would’ve been spent quite in vain.
I wish you well in your life-journey’s way,
That’s why to you all this I thought I’d say.
These my words are of a well-wishing friend.
Maybe to them your attention you’ll lend.
