These Books, With Their Dusty Face

These books, with their dusty face,
Once smart shelves they did grace,
But that was quite some time ago,
When I didn’t much better know.
I thought then that the more I read,
The more facts I stuffed in my head,
The more knowledge I could retain,
The greater the success I would attain.
But now better I’ve come to know,
And so of these books I’m letting go.
They’re heaped up in a jumbled pile,
And might stay so for a further while,
Till I sell or gift them, if I possibly can,
This is what’s now for them my plan.
Although on them much money I spent,
On their departure I won’t at all repent,
I’ll be pleased, and won’t drown in grief,
For me it’ll come as an immense relief!
