What Good Reason?

What good reason can we give
For being here and having to live?
Are we on Earth at Your command,
Or, did we ourselves this demand?
No point is there to speculate
Why this came to be our fate.
The reason to us is unknown,
Maybe it’s known to You alone.
No matter how far science may get,
This one curiosity can’t ever be met.
Through own efforts we can’t know
The reason why this must be so.
Maybe it’s a secret to Yourself You’ve kept,
And so, the best we can do is to accept
That a mystery it’s meant to remain,
Unless one day You decide to ordain
That we be told, in words loud and clear,
The reason we’ve been put on Earth here.
