What on Earth Are We Here to Do?

Have you ever felt time seeming to weigh heavily on you and wondering what to do with it? Have you ever been perplexed over what, really, our life here, on Planet Earth, is meant to be about and for? Have you ever agonized over the meaning of it all? Have you ever arrived at a corner where you had no clue what to do with yourself? You might possibly have. Faced with such situations such as these, people might come up with different answers to the basic, existential questions that they pose, and so might you.
Here is an explanation to the above set of questions that most appeals to me:
We are not here, on Planet Earth, because we ourselves decided to come here. In fact, it is possible, and maybe even highly likely, that we had no choice at all in the matter. Rather, there is a Higher Power, or God, who fashioned us and sent us here. God did this not out of any whim, but because He had a definite purpose (or set of purposes) in doing so. This means that the purpose of our being on Earth is for God’s purpose(s) in placing us here to be fulfilled.
This being so, it means that the actions that we need to do here are to be determined by God, so that they work towards the fulfillment of the purpose for which He fashioned us and sent us here. In other words, the work we need to be doing here is that which God wants each of us to do, literally from moment to moment.
Now, the question arises: From whom does one come to know what work God wants us to do while we are here? The simple answer is: Since it is God who knows the work that He wants us to do while we are here, it is from Him alone that we can learn what it is.
A second question then arises: How can we learn from God what work He wants us to do while we are here? The answer, again, is very simple: Ask Him.
Yes, we should ask God to tell us the work that He wants us to do here, learning this from Him directly. And here is a simple method for this: Every morning, on getting up from sleep, we can converse with God, during which time we can ask Him to guide us to do the deeds that day that He wants us to. We can say something like this: “God, You have brought me into this new day. Please lead me to do only those actions this day that You want me to do today, and to do them in the best possible manner. Better still, You do through me today all of these deeds.”
Later, during the course of the day, if we feel stuck and do not know what action to take, what to do or how to spend our time, we can again turn to God in conversation and ask Him to tell us, or in some other way guide us, to do just what He wants us to or to spend our time in the way He wants us to. God may then arrange for a situation to arise that may lead us to take a particular action or for us to spend our time in a meaningful way. Or, He may communicate something to us in some way (such as through the Inner Voice) about what action we ought to take or how we should spend our time.
In this way, we can seek and obtain God’s guidance each day for the things that He wants us to do in the course of the day. It’s a very simple method to know what to do and how best to spend one’s time, and, at the same time, a most effective one, too! Try it out for yourself and see, if you like!
