Who? Is it Man or You?

I don’t know why and how

You seem to willingly allow

Crafty folks to compete

With each other to cheat

Vast millions in Your name,

Down history the story same.

For aeons, since long ago,

This seems to have been so,

And even in our age, today,

It continues to be this way.

I’m not sure but perhaps

(Pardon me for any lapse)

You alone have all along

Been behind this seeming wrong,

For some purpose we can’t find,

Because we can’t read Your mind.

Of course this might not be so,

The truth of it only You know,

But what might well be true

Is, it’s all been allowed by You:

In Your name madness abounding,

Abundant falsehood resounding,

Lies triumphantly proclaimed,

Making millions to be maimed

By charlatans seeking control

Over their body, mind and soul,

Awful misery that they’ve caused

Which seems never to have paused,

This in Your name being pursued

Without the briefest interlude.

Could all this that they’ve committed

Have occurred if You'd not permitted?

Can this one thing then be safely said:

The evil in Your name that’s bred

By crafty crooks all set to deceive

Couldn't happen without Your leave?

Who, I wonder, if this claim is true,

Is behind it all—is it Man or You?
