A ‘Small’ Task for a Cause That’s Big

I spotted this morning a little bird,

The soft flapping of its wings I heard.

In its tiny beak it carried a little twig,

A ‘small’ task for a cause that's big:

Making for its babies a warm nest,

For them to hatch and safely rest.

Early morning very busy at work,

Not a moment did it its duty shirk.

In it seeming to greatly delight,

Serving its babies not yet in sight.

What great joy this seemed to be!

Was there here a lesson for me?

Maybe it's that my duties I must do,

All the tasks I’m called upon to,

For the sheer joy it might give,

A beautiful way that is to live!
