Keeping Boredom at Bay

When we’re bored, knowing not what to do,

What strange tricks our mind can get up to!

Much of our life’s troubles, this we can find,

Is simply the outcome of a very bored mind.

Refusing to be quiet, to be silent and at rest,

It rushes about foolishly, in enormous zest,

Making us do things that later we’ll regret,

Often this occurs if by boredom we’re beset.

Great misery ourselves we can easily spare

If of our bored minds we take proper care.

Much of the world’s sorrow, strife and pain

Is caused by boredom driving minds insane.

With nothing their vacant minds to occupy,

Some by boredom cause themselves to die.

With no worthy work, some others might

Revel in causing trouble, itching for a fight.

Some folks might even wars be led to wage,

Boredom’s searing pangs to thereby assuage.

From all that's said here, this we can know:

Bitter are the seeds boredom can easily sow.

In closing, maybe I will share this with you:

If you’re bored, having nothing much to do,

Sit by yourself silently, for a while meditate,

Soon you may arrive in a truly blissful state,

A state in which you may so greatly delight

That all boredom will be put to quick flight.

Along with this, these words I’d like to say:

If you wish to keep boredom firmly at bay,

Live with great passion for some high ideal,

Bored, I think, then you’d never likely feel!
