Maybe This is the Best Thing for Me to Do

If You are all that I should desire,

If for nothing else I should aspire,

And if, as they say, You are everywhere,

Then why should I want to go elsewhere,

Since it means that You are here, too,

And that I’m present right now before You?

If this is so, pine to elsewhere go

Unless You will that it must be so?

Maybe, then, I’ll contentedly remain

In the place I’m now, and not complain,

Delighting in being right here with You:

Maybe this is the best thing for me to do.

Wherever I go, You are there,

Since You are present everywhere.

Keep me always where You will I must be,

For, wherever that is, I know You’ll be with me.
