Not Your Word!

They say You sent to us many a book,

But when in them I took a good look,

These Your ‘Word’ which they called,

It pained me greatly, I was appalled,

For, in them many foolish tales I saw,

Harsh edicts they termed as Your law,

Inane prattle and idle chatter mere,

Threats designed to foment great fear,

Burnings in Hell, for all time to come,

Heavenly delights meant just for some,

Claims designed to fan hate and strife,

With talk as this these writings are rife,

Blessing oppression and blind consent,

Seeking to smother all forms of dissent,

Doctrines absurd, dogmas most bizarre,

Brazenly declaring Your Word they are,

(Along with all this, here I must also state:

A few good things too these writings relate).

Lies in Your Name, Lord, see how they preach,

False claims that they declare to be Your speech.

Clearly, their books aren’t at all what they said:

Not Your Word, but human handiwork instead.

Why You let this happen You know very well,

Maybe one day the reason to us You will tell.
