I said to myself in words plain:
“There’s nothing you must attain,
Nor anything you must achieve.
There’s no legacy you must leave,
Nor any name you must earn.
But there’s one lesson you must learn:
And that is, that there’s here for you
Nothing at all which you need to do.
If you do anything, it is a sin,
Grave peril thereby you put yourself in,
For, your doing will make things worse,
Being not a blessing but a curse.
Do nothing at all, my dear friend,
Doing’s not a task for you to attend.
Let Him who designed this cosmic play
Do all the doing and have His way.
To do anything why should you care
When to do everything He is there?
So, let all the doing that you seem to do
Be His doing as He wills through you,
With you doing nothing on your own,
He being the one doing it all alone.
Heed this request, I beg you, please,
And from all doing at once cease.
The world is His madhouse, so let Him do
Here and through you as He wants to.
